We started Bonkers About Babies as two new Mums. You can learn all about the fabulous journey we
have taken to get us here on our About Us page. We launched our first
magazine in the Peterborough and Huntingdon area in September 2006. Since then things have gone from
strength to strength and we have added to our team, we’ve had more babies, are launching
magazines in other regions and had our first baby show in 2007 which was a huge success and has led
to subsequent shows. We are confident our magazines are of huge benefit to both their readers and
advertisers alike!
The response we have had from our advertisers, and most importantly – our readers – has
been amazing. We’ve included some of the comments from our advertisers and readers on the
Readers Views page. Many of our advertisers now don’t need to
advertise in anything else.
Our magazine has become so popular that in late 2008 Peterborough District Hospital approached us and
asked us to provide them with enough copies of each issue for a copy to be given to each pregnant lady
having an antenatal scan there. We agreed the same with Hinchingbrooke hospital in Huntingdon early in
2009 and we are now in discussion with other hospitals around the UK to achieve the same.
We have found that the main reason for the success of our publication is that we start reaching the
Mums when they are early in their pregnancies.
In this way we separate ourselves from many of our competitors who focus on Mums with babies, toddlers
and preschoolers.
As Mums discover they are pregnant they are excited to receive as much information about their pregnancy
and their new way of life as possible and they are very receptive to ideas about how they will care for
their new little one.
In fact most Mums make major decisions about their baby’s care before it has even been born – which
buggy to use, which nursery to choose, whether to use disposable or natural nappies, classes they might like
to attend with their baby, if they will breast or bottle feed – to name but a few.
Bonkers About Babies helps these Mums to make these decisions by providing them with all the options that
are open to them in their local area. Once they have received their first issue of Bonkers About Babies (often
at their booking in session with their midwife) they continue to read our publication well into toddlerdom
and often into their subsequent pregnancies.
We also ensure that the magazine contains information that Mums will want to reference time and time
again – like our Babies About Town spread that we include in each issue that tells Mums where they
can go to breastfeed, change their babies, etc. etc. in their local towns. This feature alone encourages Mums
to keep a copy of Bonkers in their change bag.
There are a variety of options on advert sizes available from an 1/8th Page for just £30 to full magazine
sponsorship. Our standard quarter page advert starts at just £60.00 per issue. These prices are not subject to VAT.
Through our experience we have found that the most successful adverts are those that run for successive
issues. Most advertisers receive some response from their first insertion and then a massive increase in
response from the second and subsequent insertions. For this reason we have put in place a policy where new
advertisers would book a package of a minimum of 4, ideally 6 issues. This is to give your advert a chance
to work. To help make this more affordable you are not required to have the same size advert in each issue,
you can change this to suit the budget you have available at the time and you will be invoiced for each
advert on a per insertion basis. The important thing to realise is that the more issues you book, the bigger
discount you can receive (up to 20%) and the bigger response you will get. Please see our current advertising

We distribute our magazine free of charge to local mums from distribution points across each region where
we have a Bonkers About Babies publication. In both Peterborough and Huntingdon we distribute through the
hospital with our magazines being handed to pregnant Mums at their antenatal scans. We are working with other
hospitals around the UK to achieve the same. Local health visiting teams & Community Midwives have given
us loads of support. They recognise the magazine as being of real value to parents in their local area and
even have space in each issue to advertise their own services and facilities. They continue to help us by
making Parents in their area aware of the magazine, handing it out, having it available at baby clinics and
letting us know if they run out. They’ve really helped us in ensuring this magazine is as helpful as
possible to local Parents. We endeavour to ensure we distribute to each and every new mum in each regional
area – of which there are approximately 2000 a quarter in Peterborough and Huntingdon alone! We provide
the Midwives with a quantity of our magazines so they can provide their pregnant ladies with a copy at their
booking in session. Health Visitors often hand the magazine out at the first visit to a new Mum and also have
stacks of them at their baby clinics. In addition, we distribute the magazine through toddler groups, health
clinics, baby boutiques, activity centres and shops and libraries across the areas. Many of our advertisers,
especially those that hold parenting/baby or toddler classes, also distribute the magazine for us. Our
magazine – and your advert – will reach more than 16,000 mums per region per quarterly issue. Many
of these are new Mums who will not have received the magazine before!!
The magazine is A5 size and is between 32 and 56 pages (this is dependent on the number of booked adverts
and how long the region’s magazine has been going). It is professionally published on high quality
130gsm glossy paper. The magazine is full colour. We work hard to make this a good quality magazine that
Parents will want to keep and reference time and time again and we often see Mums with a copy in their change
bag whilst we are out and about.

publicity of our baby show as well as additional promotion of our website, our magazine, our Christmas Parties

The Online Pink Pages is a directory broken down in a variety of categories from Pregnancy & Childbirth

description and link to your website if you have one.
